US+A parts 3&4

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

This weekend I finished sorting out my holiday pictures, to see the pictures from our roadtrip and 48 hours in San Francisco have a look here. One of the standout places we visited in San Francisco was the de Young museum, with huge views of the city from the observation tower it’s well worth a visit. With a similar exterior aesthetic and angular construct to the Jewish museum in Berlin at first I thought it must have been designed by the same Architects, but after a quick wikipedia blast I now know I was completely wrong.

Back in blighty

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

I’ve been back since Sunday lunch time and I’m still tired?

The trip was incredible, we did so much in so little time, including my debut hitchhike! I’m pretty sure the US+A diaries are best told in a public house so I will save you the trouble by not going on about it here.

The good news is I have started to sort out my pictures, got 2 of 4 sets sorted for your viewing pleasure right here.

Andreas Gursky

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

A collection of german photographer Andreas Gursky’s recent work is being exhibited at the White Cube, Mason’s Yard. It’s big, it’s clever and well worth a visit before the show ends on Saturday May 5th (entrance is free).

Andrew G Hobbs

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

Bureau for Visual Affairs have recently produced this simple flash portfolio site for photographer Andrew Hobbs. At a first glance the interface looks and feels pretty fresh, efficiently serving up detail views of the photographers work (might be nice if there was a full screen option?). The clever bit is when the site’s flash engine works out the size of your browser window and adjusts the presentation accordingly, nice.

Monocle

Monday, March 5th, 2007

I was going to write a post about Monocle a few weeks ago after a good impression of the first 20 pages, then I decided to wait and read the whole issue before commenting.

Unfortunately my reading stopped after that initial blast, not because it was no good, but because the week started and Monocle was put to one side never to picked up again, I am hoping writing this will spur me on to go back and finish what I started.

Anyway, my point is, If you get the occasional urge for a briefing on global affairs, business and international design stuff, and you would appreciate it presented with excellent typography, beautiful photography on nice
paper then Monocle could be very good for you, that is if you don’t mind parting with 5 pounds once a month. Plus you might like to know the world-wide-web property of the magazine offers the user suplimentary rich media content to the magazine’s lead editorial features.

4th floor action!

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

We moved office on Monday, not too far mind - Just upstairs to the fourth floor of the biscuit building. The new space must be about 3/4 times the size of our old space down on the third floor, not surprisingly we are loving every minute of the new space!

Have a gander at Tom’s flickr set documenting the development our new home.

Face Recognition

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

My Hertiage’s amusing face recognition engine compares facial traits of your uploaded mugshot and spits out a bunch of celebrity matches with whom you bear resemblance to, apparently :)
