‘MySpace has become the Internet’s equivalent of crack’

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007

Is a quote from ‘Anatomy of a Successful Social Network’, an article Knotty showed me. It makes for an interesting read, analysing current development trends of social networks amongst other things.

I liked the crack analogy, which is the reason why I decided the creation of my personal MySpace page would end at the registration screen. I also like amusing image names, when searching google for an image to illustrate this post I found ‘me chrissy and julie on crack.jpg’, too much information perhaps?

Zopa on BBC 1

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

You’ll have to forgive me for another team Poke trumpet blowing post, but the good stuff keeps on coming!

This time I want to tell you about Zopa, a project I was working on this summer. The company was featured on the BBC news a few days back. Watch the BBC spot for an understanding of how it all works…

Our brief was to bring the community aspect of the site to the fore and demonstrate how people lending to other people is quite simply the best way to do money, aswell as refreshing the look and feel of their existing website inline with the branding the company had developed with North design.

We hope to have made Zopa a far more social experience by introducing an engaging flash environment populated with real Zopa lenders and borrowers, who have real data attached to them for users to interrogate and learn more about Zopa and its markets.

The characters you meet at Zopa were illustrated by Cookie. We are all really enjoying seeing the team at Zopa introducing the characters across the site, from paddling pool parties to characters lucky enough to be equipped with rocket packs!

NO DANCING BEFORE 19.24

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

Simon here sent an email round yesterday inviting us all to a mobile clubbing event at Liverpool St tube station last night, the invitation was simply ‘TONIGHT, Liverpool Street Station, 11 October 2006 19:24′.

I passed up the opportunity this time, but it looks like some people made it down there - have a look at this flickr set from last night, looks mental!

Scriptographer

Monday, July 10th, 2006

Scriptographer is a plugin for Adobe Illustrator that allows the users to extend and create tools for the graphical medium. Its also very powerful with the under pinnings of Java and the flexibilty of javascript as the script engine.

Lots of interesting projects will be coming from this sweat little application in the future.
I’m currently doing alot of work using this plugin (not for commercial - although it would be interesting to see if it could be used) - I’ve got database interaction, sound control and a 3d engine as just some possibilities what can be done.

I used a very early beta version for my final master’s project and it was sweet then - so this new updated version is awesome.

ZOOTUBE

Friday, May 26th, 2006

Poke + Zoo Magazine + You Tube = ZOO TUBE of course!

In support of the forthcoming marketing campaign, a blog has been launched so we can follow the adventures of Steve and Richard, with cheeky previews of their activity via You Tube.

‘The Zoo marketing team have blagged a pile of cash to go and do cool stuff. Basically instead of spunking cash on a load of flashy tv ads thought it’d be more fun to take the money and use it to do something properly good instead.’

The Vines debut video on YouTube

Wednesday, May 10th, 2006

‘The Vines’ have exclusively debuted their promo for their latest single on You Tube.

‘…marking the first time a major act has premiered its content on the destination. The video, “Anysound,” fits well into the anything-goes, viral nature of YouTube…’

So we are gonna see an ever increasing corporate interest in the web video community - no surprise there then. An interest which for the time being will neither harm or prevent us getting our fair share of shits and giggles out of ‘Youtube’ for the next few months I’m sure…

For those looking to start playing with something else, I have recently come across Jumpcut and Vimeo, both offering a similar experience model of explore, upload, edit, remix etc.
