Spotted in the weekend papers - The East Beach Cafe at Littlehampton.

The Heatherwick studio have created a striking construction that promises to breathe some hot air back into sleepy Littlehampton when it opens later this month. The Chef is mean’t to be a bit of alright aswell, so it looks like a little road trip is on the cards this summer!

Turning The Place Over

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

British sculptor and Turner prize nominee Richard Wilson had produced a new piece of art called in Liverpool named “Turning The Place Over.” An 8 Metre slice of a building rotates in a spectacular fashion, allowing onlookers to view the inside of the building. I love it.

US+A parts 3&4

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

This weekend I finished sorting out my holiday pictures, to see the pictures from our roadtrip and 48 hours in San Francisco have a look here. One of the standout places we visited in San Francisco was the de Young museum, with huge views of the city from the observation tower it’s well worth a visit. With a similar exterior aesthetic and angular construct to the Jewish museum in Berlin at first I thought it must have been designed by the same Architects, but after a quick wikipedia blast I now know I was completely wrong.

4th floor action!

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

We moved office on Monday, not too far mind - Just upstairs to the fourth floor of the biscuit building. The new space must be about 3/4 times the size of our old space down on the third floor, not surprisingly we are loving every minute of the new space!

Have a gander at Tom’s flickr set documenting the development our new home.

Corian ribbons in Rome

Friday, December 1st, 2006

I really like Fabio Novembre’s new corian ribbon fuelled design concept for the interiors of American shoe brand ‘Stuart Weitzman’ Flagship stores. I remember Cheets telling me all about Corian once, as he used it to produce his toaster, although I can’t really remember anything he said to be honest!

More pictures here of the shop interior here.

Anglo Italian Pet Architecture

Thursday, March 2nd, 2006

Just been browsing this week’s Design week and came across an interesting article on ‘Pet Architecture’ in Tokyo.

‘Pets, companion animals of the people, are usually small, humorous and charming. We find what we could call “Per Architectur”, architecture having pet like characteristics, existing in the most unexpected places within the Tokyo city limits…’

If you didn’t see the article read it here.

Its being led by an Anglo Italian practice in Tokyo called Klein Dytham, who display a really interesting body of work. They’ve even plugged the google maps api into their site! (how friggin tech am I!)

I love the banner at the bottom of the site ‘Refreshingly Flash Free’ :)

Louis Kahn

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

Salk Institute

Briefly channel hopping I came across, ‘My Architect‘ a film by Nathaniel Kahn about Louis Kahn, on BBC 4. It was a really moving film, which I watched parts of.
I wont pretend I know anything about architecture, but I really do like his work. Its not surprising that his charismatic identity permeates every single detail of his gorgeous structures to make them into inhabitable monoliths, these are works of a man truly devoted to his art.
