Introducing Koichiro Tsujikawa

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Last night I followed up my rediscovery of Cornelius with some world wide web digging which led me to director Koichiro Tsujikawa, long-term collaborator of said music artist.

As you will see his portfolio displays a fine body of work ranging commercials, music videos, short film and tv. The music video’s he has produced compliment Cornelius’s sound perfectly, below is the excellent video he produced for ‘Fit Song’ from the album ‘Sensuous’. Amazing!

If you like what you see and hear read a brief interview with him that touches on his background and process here, and then view more video’s.

Meeting Mr. Chermayeff

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

Last week I went to the D&AD Presidents lecture where straight talking, non computer using, rubbish collecting graphic designer Ivan Chermayeff took centre stage and shared stories from his 50 year (and still going strong) career in design. He showcased projects he was invloved in on behalf of his company Chermayeff & Gesimar, including brand identities, exhibition design, motion graphics and art in architecture. As you may expect it made for a very impressive and highly motivating evening.

Towards the end of the lecture he presented a selection of motion graphic projects his studio has produced, one of which was a project called ‘Logomotion’ where a selection of their identities are morphed in and out of each other, excerpts of which can be viewed here. This organic sequence of events reminded me of a little typographic place called Bembo’s Zoo. Enjoy.

Procrastination

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

Procrastination is sticking a pencil up your nose amongst other things in this great animated film by Johnny Kelly. I missed a screening of this at the London Animation Festival earlier this year, and now the internet has made my wish come true. Enjoy

Return of the Mac

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Unfortunately this isn’t a post about the legend that is Mark Morrison, it’s just good news, I’m back on PTN with 5 things from the last few weeks…

1. Poke have recently produced a campaign site for the WWF in an effort to help persuade the government to include emission-tastic aviation and shipping on the change climate bill, if you sign an online petition your name might just sail down the thames on a massive paper plane or boat. Iain has written about this in detail if you would like to find out more.

2. I found an old friend on the internet yesterday, she has a great photography portfolio.

3. I have been enjoying the uber user-friendly stats app extrodinaire aka. Google Analytics since hooking it up on my portfolio site last month, it’s well decent and so simple to add to your site, have a go.

4. Cookie introduced me to Raymond, a great french short film produced by the Mill that will remind you of the Ragdoll.
‘Raymond, a lazy swimming pool instructor, who would like to discover the ocean’s. A team of scientists with a brand new solution offers to help him’.

5. Some friends and I went to NYC at the end of September, it was incredible - here are the pictures which tell the story (well apart from the bits I wouldn’t want to show Grandma!).

LIAF

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

The London International Animation Festival starts Tuesday evening and runs through to Sunday. ‘The Pearce Sisters’ a new film from Aardman Studios opens the festival.

An amusingly bleak hearted tale of two weather lashed old spinsters. Lol and Edna Pearce live on a remote and austere strip of coast. They scrape out a miserable existence from the sea. The pearce sisters is a tale of love, loneliness, guts, gore, nudity, violence, smoking and cups of tea.

From Pokers with Love

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Here are three good things that have been sent round at Poke this week…

1. See the drastic change in the pay gap between the average CEO and the average worker since 1970 with the swell CEO payscale slider.

2. More infographics, this time from Flip Flop Flying - Facial Hair of US, UK and UN leaders.

3. ‘Climate Change’ animation from Airside+ Mother.

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

From a far (gazing at billboards) I have been liking most of the artwork for the current low cost flights campaign for BA. Today I found out that ad agency BBH created them and National Telelvision brought them to life, there is a small animation sequence of the type transisitions here.
